Art Journal - May 2022

May was a busy month, and I didn't get to paint as much as I had hoped, but I am happy with the pages I got.

  • Watercolor painting of a Mai Tai cocktail with a slice of lime and a mint leaf, over a scene of a wooden table with candles, drinks, menus, and with someone in a red shirt sitting across the table
  • A watercolor painting of two women sitting in bright yellow chairs across from each other, with a TV screen showing a lit fireplace in the background
  • A watercolor painting of a margarita cocktail, then three portraits of different people getting a tattoo from the same tattoo artist
  • Watercolor painting of 3 metal paintbrushes, with sizes 2, 8, and 12 listed below, and a portrait of a dog with a red leash, looking out over a rocky beach and a blue ocean

The wide spread is the only thing I painted during a trip to visit my family. We all got matching tattoos, and I definitely needed the practice for drawing faces/heads at the right size. You can see the lines where I drew the head too small the first time, which is difficult to cover up. Oh well, that's part of the fun!

Hopefully throughout June I can put in a few more brush miles. As the weather is getting nicer, I'm planning on spending more time outside, sketching and painting from life. Next month's sketchbook roundup should hopefully include some of those :)
