Weeknotes #1: ‘Twas the week after Christmas
Weeknotes: why the hell not? I guess I won't promise that these will actually be weekly, but I'll try. Or whatever.
- After many years of trying to organize a Christmas vacation with my family, my flight from Vancouver to Vegas was cancelled due to weather — so I never made it. Spent Christmas at home instead with partner and puppy.
- Have spent most of this week trying to get in touch with Expedia or WestJet to refund my tickets, but so far I have only been passed back and forth between the two companies. Nevertheless, I will persist.
- Made some tweaks to this here website so it (maybe?) supports webmentions again. Not quite ready to do anything with those yet, but at least I can send/receive them.
📖 Reading
- Purchased and downloaded, but have not yet started, the ninth book in the Wheel of Time series, Winter’s Heart. I’ve taken a bit of a break from these books after starting the series in December 2020. It’s… a long fucking series. And reading is hard sometimes.
📺 TV & Movies
- Started (and finished) watching season one of The White Lotus. It’s great! Feeling like I could stand to keep up with current TV a little better. Have already started season two.
- Watched Prey, of the Predator series. I’m not super well-versed in the Predator movies, but this was pretty good. Thrilled that the dog didn’t die.
- Avatar: The Way of Water was fine but way too long. Really pretty. Fairly non-stop, as well, which is good given the runtime, but I was distracted by my own need to use the toilet for at least the last 30 minutes.
December 31, 2022
Going to the movies on Christmas Day is something of a tradition in my family. I couldn’t be with them this year, but my partner and I stuck to the tradition and went to see Avatar: The Way of Water tonight. The movie is pretty, obviously, and it’s perfectly fine, as movies go, but we absolutely need to stop pretending like 3+ hours is an acceptable runtime for a movie.

Flight was cancelled, so I guess I won’t be drinking mimosas in a hot tub in Las Vegas this Christmas.

Meant to be travelling in a couple of days, but still waiting to make sure the flight isn’t cancelled due to weather. This is not a fun waiting game.

Grabbing the handle of a saucepan, barehanded, when it’s fresh out of a 400 degree oven, will hurt. A lot. For hours. Ask me how I know!

I know: it’s okay to take a break and step away from things, even your hobbies and passions. But I do worry that “I don’t feel like painting tonight” very quickly turns into “I haven’t painted in weeks/months.”
